Current Distance Workshop

Distance Education Comes of Age
2008 Project IDEAL Workshop

This year's Project IDEAL Workshop was held August 4th-7th in Ann Arbor. Workshop attendees came from 13 member, alumni, and visiting states.

Participants' varied levels of experience with distance education resulted in lively discussions about:

  • The unique ways in which different states have been scaling up their distance programs
  • Issues in providing ongoing teacher professional development and ideas for keeping teachers interested and engaged
  • What workable distance policies entail
  • How to conduct research to determine proxy contact hours
  • Creative ways to use Web 2.0 technologies for professional development and to serve distance learners

A variety of events after workshop sessions gave participants ample time to socialize and network while sampling Ann Arbor's varied cuisines and cultural life. Newly rennovated historical Lane Hall (one of the oldest buildings on U of M's campus) provided the backdrop for this year's conference photo.
